"Dear Folks" Virtual Exhibition

Dear Folks Audio Tour

Dear Folks: Letters Home from WWII was on display at the Rockpile Museum from February 26, 2019 to September 21, 2019. The exhibit featured letters sent home by Campbell County soldiers during World War II. Not only did guests have the chance to read a variety of letters from Campbell County soldiers, they also had the unique opportunity to listen to a selection of letters being read by the descendants of these men. The men talked about life in the South Pacific, Europe, Asia, and much more.

The Rockpile Museum held an exclusive Exhibit Opening on February 26, 2019. The evening began with a short documentary, Dear Folks: The Making of an Exhibit, followed by a round-table discussion with the volunteers and family members who came together to create this powerful exhibit. The exhibit was open until Smithsonian Museum Day on September 21, 2019 when Museum Educator Stephan Zacharias sent the exhibit off with a Black & Yellow Theatre program. Stephan highlighted the stories of our local veterans, read a few more letters, and read the honor roll of those Campbell County men who gave the ultimate sacrifice during World War II.

Please enjoy this virtual exhibit highlighting the great work done by the Rockpile Museum staff in 2019.  You will find links to the documentary, a virtual exhibit showcasing the photos and audio from the exhibit, and a link to the closing program.
