On June 7, 2021, over 100 people joined Governor Mark Gordon and Energy Capital Economic Development at the groundbreaking celebration for the Wyoming Innovation Center (WyIC), Wyoming’s developmental facility for high-value, non-fuel, coal-based processes and products.
The Wyoming Innovation Center (WyIC) offers businesses with proven coal-based technologies an open-access platform to host pre-commercial scale-up to foster the continued utilization of Wyoming’s abundant, affordable, and secure coal resources.
The Wyoming Innovation Center is located on 9.5 acres of land at the former Fort Union mine on North Garner Lake Road. The WyIC facility will have seven site pads for tenants to perform technology testing, a 4,000 square foot office building with lab space and a 1,500 square foot building for processing coal and coal byproducts. The following funding sources have made it possible for this project to come to fruition: Energy Capital Economic Development, Wyoming Business Council, City of Gillette and Campbell County Government.
