1. Why is my E-Reader is no longer showing up in Adobe Digital Editions?

This is a known issue with ADE and eReaders, though the cause is not known. Users will need to deactivate both their device and their computer, then follow these instructions:

• First with your device connected to your computer access your devices folders
  
  
  
  • Go to My Computer on your PC
  
  
  • Open your eReader from your Devices/Removable Storage list
  
  
  • There will be an Adobe Digital Editions folder
  
  
  • Delete this folder
  
  
  • Close the file view of your device
  
  
  
  


• Now eject your device from your computer


• Now unauthorize your Adobe Digital Edition
  
  
  
  • To do this open ADE
  
  
  • Press and hold Control_Shift_D
  
  
  • Select Erase Authorization
  
  
  
  


• Now reauthorize ADE
  
  
  
  • Go to Help in the top toolbar
  
  
  • Select Authorize Computer
  
  
  
  


• Reconnect your eReader to your computer

Your computer should automatically authorize your device.

2. What happens if you attempt to read an E-Pub book on multiple devices?

If you attempt to read an e-pub book on multiple devices you will receive this message: "E_LIC_ALREADY_FULFILLED_BY_ANOTHER_USER." Users get this error if they are attempting to read their ePub book on multiple devices. If each device has a different ID, you will need to unauthorize and authorize them so they all match. It is easiest to unauthorize Adobe Digital Editions on your computer. To do this:

• Press and hold Control-Shift-D


• Select Erase Authorization
  
  
  
  • Note that if you activate Adobe Digital Editions with an Adobe ID which has already been used to activate Adobe Digital Editions on another computer, any DRM-protected Adobe eBooks downloaded before activating with the Adobe ID will no longer work.
  
  
  • If the subsequent download of an Adobe eBook is attempted on a computer that has been activated using a different Adobe ID, DRM restrictions will make the title incompatible with the second computer.

3. What does the error "E_ADEPT_IO" mean?

There are two potential causes of this error. The most common is if your computers clock or time are inaccurate. You can access the “Change Date and Time Settings” by clicking on the date and time on your menu bar. This error generates when a firewall is preventing the download of a ePub book to Adobe Digital Editions. To fix this:

• Turn off your Firewall and keep it off while you are side loading any ePub books.
  
  
  
  • Firewall, anti-virus, and proxy software can intercept the activation request from Adobe Digital Editions to the activation server. If you receive an error beginning with “E_ADEPT_IO,” then your machine isn’t allowing the connection to the activation server.
  
  
  
  

To resolve this issue, modify your firewall or other software to allow your machine to connect to the activation server:

• Choose Start, then Control Panel, then Windows Firewall.


• Do one of the following:
  
  
  
  • Windows Vista, Windows 7: In the sidebar, select the option for Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall. Click Allow Another Program.
  
  
  • Windows XP: Select the Exceptions tab. Click Add Program.
  
  
  
  


• From the Add A Program menu, select Adobe Digital Editions.


• Approve the prompts that appear to complete the process.

To test the firewall settings, go to Adobe. If you see a page that says “Welcome to Digital Editions,” your machine can now connect to the activation server. Please email the library if you have any other questions.

4. What does "E_ADEPT_REQUEST_EXPIRED" mean?

This issue deals with date and time. Make sure that the machine’s system time, date, and time zone match the time / date / zone when you purchased the PDF or ePUB. Please email the library if you have any other questions.
